Dovecote Park are the sole supplier to Waitrose and their affiliated companies for all beef products, fresh and frozen. Retail packs of diced beef are one of their many product lines. David Redman, Production Manager at Dovecote Park explained that until recently, the packing of diced beef trays was a completely manual operation, which was dependent on the skill and judgement of their staff to ensure that adequate product was put into the trays. With a previous knowledge of weighing and labelling specialists Herbert and their product range he contacted them about providing a solution. Additional productivity was gained through the introduction of an element of competition between operators instigated by the presence of a touchscreen monitor in the production area, which shows a graphical representation of all scale operators' performance relative to one another.
